Objects with a Voice: Small Stories, Great Heritage

A two-day workshop centered on women and female empowerment, aiming to highlight the personal and collective contributions of women. The event was co-organized by the Balkan Youth Cooperation and the UNESCO Chair on Threats to Cultural Heritage, with the kind hospitality of the Hellenic Society for Environment and Culture.

The purpose of the seminar was for participants, through interactive workshops, to understand the important role of women’s contributions, to explore how oral history can be collected through objects, and to learn how simple items can become carriers of cultural heritage, linking personal stories with collective memory.

To achieve these goals, participants were invited to bring an object or a photo of a woman who inspires them. On the first day, Athina Fatsea introduced the topic, discussing objects as carriers of cultural heritage. On the second day, our contributor Annia Korneva led experiential group activities, where participants interacted with objects, shared experiences, and recorded valuable pieces of cultural heritage. On the third and final day, Angeliki Kosmopoulou and the Story Mentor guided participants through storytelling exercises and tools, allowing them to share their own stories and conclude the workshop with inspiration, creativity, and new personal connections.
